What to do after an accident.

Road Traffic Accidents

  • Check you and any vehicle occupants are not in any immediate danger
  • Decide whether the car must be moved and if so remember where the vehicle was prior to moving it – make sure you are not at risk of further collisions
  • If anyone is, or may be, hurt – call the Police to the scene
  • Obtain details of anyone who saw the accident – either other drivers or pedestrians
  • Speak to the other driver(s) involved and obtain his details. Call the Police if this information isn’t forthcoming
  • Ask the other driver what he thought happened in the accident – don’t discuss this or argue, though
  • Note down everything about the accident – the full details of the other car (make, model, colour, damage areas, number of occupants); the name, address, description and insurance details of the other driver, details of any witnesses; exact accident location and time
  • Take photos if you can – cheap disposable cameras are very useful for this
  • If anyone has been injured, consider calling an ambulance, or attend hospital at A&E – make sure you get medical advice
  • Report the incident to your insurance company the same day if you can and give them all the details you took at the scene
  • Call Talk Once on 0800 089 2011to discuss your claim or complete the online claim form now!
